Argentinian Rock

Argentinian Rock is a genre very widely related to rock, punk, new wave and Heavy metal among many other genres.

It appeared in the second half of the 60′s, during which it originated as a musical genre called “Musica progresiva” to then be called “Rock Nacional” (National Rock). Rock Nacional formed when many underground groups started to compose songs in spanish about topics that worried the youth of that time. Since then, Argentinian Rock has evolved constantly in the 70′s and 80′s to become an internationally recognized genre.

It is mostly sung in Castellano (Spanish) and was one of the first genre in being massively sung in a language that wasn’t English, reaching a very wide national and then international popularity. It became the most important genre of the hispanic language and one of the biggest sucess of the exterior borderlines.

The war in Argentina, had the effect of revitalizing Argentinian Rock, though it had been one of the darkest chapters in our history.
