MATE: an Argentinian culture

Mate and Bombilla

You probably have heard, or not, about MATE. This is an Argentinian tradition and part of our culture. It’s a wood or pumpkin glass we can say so you understand. With different shapes, colours and sizes.

On the other hand, you’ve got hot water inside a Termo, which in the photos is the rounded and large metal tube. This Termo is used to keep the water hot for long so it doesn’t get cold.

The Asado: a decalogue

The Asado

I know that another girl wrote about the asado, but I want to share with you the decalogue of Asado that I found some years ago, and that it’s such a good way of telling you what an Asado really is to the Argentinians. So let’s begin:

The Asado starts when you go to choose and buy the meat

The typical and favorite Argentinian dish: The “asado”

This is the favorite food definitely. It is similar to the American barbeques, but the way it is made makes the difference. It consists basically of meat cooked slowly over a grill, by charcoals. The only condiment used is salt, and although it might sound poor, I can assure you guys sure that it is really tasty.

Any type of animal (cow, chicken, pork, goat, lamb) can be used for the meat, and some internal parts of the animal, such as heart, kidneys, some even use the head of the animals, which some of us find disgusting.
